Onion Gravy for Thanksgiving

6 large onions, sliced
12 cloves of garlic, minced
3/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup Earth Balance
3/4 cup flour
9 cups water
3 Tbsp Better than Bullion No Chicken Base (or stock/bullion/etc of your choice in appropriate amount)
2 level Tbsp Marmite
1/4 cup soy sauce

Heat the olive oil and EB in a frying pan over a low heat and add the onion. After five minutes add the garlic and saute until onions are transparent, about 10 minutes more. Add the flour and stir in well so that there is no lumps. Cook a bit longer, a minute or two. Add the water one cup at a time, stirring thoroughly so that there are no flour lumps. Then stir in the remaining ingredients. Transfer to crock pot and cook on low until ready to serve.
